Directions for
Valtrex
If you are taking Valtrex for shingles, you should start using it
as soon as possible after your doctor has made a diagnosis. It's best to
see a doctor and start the drug within 48 hours of first noticing the rash.
If you wait more than 72 hours after you first get a herpes zoster rash,
the medication may not be effective.
If you are using Valtrex for genital herpes, begin taking it at the
first sign of an attack. The medication may not be effective if you wait
longer than 72 hours after the first attack or24 hours after a later attack.
You may take Valtrex with or without food.
If you miss a dose... Take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost
time for your nextdose,skip the one you missed and go back to your regular
schedule. Do not take2 doses at the same time.

Store at room temperature.
Cautions
for Valtrex
High doses of Valtrex have proved dangerous in people whose immune
system is compromised because of HIVinfection, bone marrow transplant, or
kidney transplant. If your kidneys are not functioning properly, or you are
taking drugs that may damage the kidneys such as Neomycin or Streptomycin,
Valtrex can make your condition worse or affect your central nervous system
(brainand spinal cord). Valtrex relieves the symptoms of genital herpes,
but it is not a cure. There's also no evidence that it will prevent transmission
of the disease. To avoid spreading the infection, don't have sexual intercourse
during a flare-up.
Valtrex is not intended for use in children.
Possible Side Effects
for Valtrex
Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change inintensity,
inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if
it is safe for you to continue using Valtrex. Side effects may include: Abdominal
pain, aggressive behavior, agitation, allergic reactions, confusion, depression,
diarrhea, dizziness, facial swelling, hallucinations, headache, high blood
pressure, joint pain, mania, menstrual problems, nausea, rapid heartbeat,
rash, vomiting

Directions for
Acyclovir
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor.
Take this medicine with food or milk if it upsets your stomach. Store this
medicine at room temperature, away from light and moisture. To clean up your
infection completely, continue taking this medicine for the full course of
treatment even if you feel better in a few days. Do not miss any doses. If
you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost
time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular
dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Cautions
for Acyclovir
If your symptoms do not improve within a few days or if they become
worse, check with your doctor. If you are using this medicine for genital
herpes, begin using it as soon as you notice symptoms (pain, burning, blisters)
of an infection. Use a condom during sexual intercourse. If you plan on becoming
pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine
during pregnancy. If you are or may be pregnant, check with your doctor for
instructions on using this medicine during pregnancy. Before you begin taking
any new medicine, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your
doctor or pharmacist. This medicine is excreted in breast milk. If you are
or will be breast-feeing while you are using this medicine, check with your
doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
Possible Side Effects
for Acyclovir
Side effects, that may go away during treatment, include nausea, vomiting,
diarrhea, or headache. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your
doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor,
nurse, or pharmacist.
